The Sierra Vest — a classic outdoor masterpiece from THE NORTH FACE — has been updated and re-released using cutting-edge synthetic leather developed with advanced fiber technology.
THE NORTH FACE Purple Label has released numerous versions of the Sierra Vest over the years, but this time, it has taken a distinctly brand-driven approach to reimagining it. By blending the timeless design of classic outdoor wear with cutting-edge materials born from modern technology, the vest is given a fresh, contemporary interpretation.
The standout material used is Ultrasuede®, known for its soft texture and refined color tone. Its surface is composed of intricately intertwined ultrafine fibers that are brushed to create a smooth, uniquely soft touch.
The internal structure is made of non-woven fabric formed by bundles of ultrafine fibers, which gives Ultrasuede® its durability, lightness, and moderate breathability. The version used here features stretchability, and true to its name, offers a supple texture reminiscent of genuine suede.
The design of the Sierra Vest remains true to its original form, while some details have been refined. In recent seasons, the collar was shortened to better layer with hooded parkas, but this version returns to a broader collar width, closer to the original model. While preserving the feel of the 80’s Sierra Vest, the use of updated materials and components brings a modern sensibility to the piece.
In true THE NORTH FACE style, dot buttons are used — but this time, a bold choice was made to go with gold. Instead of the familiar silver that typically blends in, the use of gold adds a fresh and striking finish to the piece.
To complement the lightness of the Ultrasuede® material, the lining is made from a lightweight micro ripstop fabric using recycled nylon yarn. The result is a piece that feels lighter than it looks when worn. It pairs naturally with casual styles like a down vest over a short-sleeve T-shirt.
For insulation, it uses THE NORTH FACE Purple Label’s signature KODENSHI® down — a high-performance material that radiates the far-infrared rays (body heat) emitted by the wearer back to the body, helping to maintain a natural, lasting warmth.
Inside the right waist pocket, there’s a hidden compartment designed to store small essentials like keys or wireless earbuds. At first glance, the design appears simple, but it thoughtfully incorporates details that enhance everyday urban living.
The vest comes in two color options: Asphalt Gray and Black. With a moderate amount of down insulation and a relaxed yet not overly oversized silhouette, it’s designed to be an easy-to-wear, versatile piece.
