The release of the lapel jacket from THE NORTH FACE Purple Label brand marks a long-awaited return. Rather than a stiff, formal suit jacket, it is designed to be a more relaxed, daily-wear jacket that you can wear casually, with careful attention paid to the materials used in its construction.

Inspired by the herringbone twill fabric commonly used in workwear and military clothing, this herringbone twill is crafted by adjusting the size of the pattern using two types of polyester threads. The warp uses a matte spun polyester thread, while the weft is made of stretch yarn. Despite being 100% polyester, the fabric has a cotton-like feel. The use of stretch yarn, which is not polyurethane, ensures no concern about degradation, providing just the right amount of stretch during wear. Compared to traditional cotton herringbone twill, this material is lighter, more abrasion-resistant, and offers enhanced dye fastness.

The lapel design, which serves as the focal point of the jacket, is crafted to maintain a balanced neckline that isn’t too stiff. To give a relaxed impression, the gorge line (the seam where the upper and lower collar meet) is intentionally placed lower, affecting the overall appearance. This lapel design is tailored with an eye for coordinating not just with shirts but also with cut-and-sew items, ensuring a good balance for both styles.

When the wind is strong, the jacket can be fastened with buttons and worn like a coverall. The classic stitching used for the collar’s interfacing serves as a design accent. Below the lapel, a hidden zipper pocket inspired by the Mountain Jacket pocket detail from THE NORTH FACE is placed, subtly mixing in outdoor elements.

The strong shoulder slope is designed to create a rounded silhouette when worn. The shoulder darts add movement to the shoulder line while ensuring the sleeves have a forward tilt. The design emphasizes a three-dimensional, relaxed silhouette with a focus on both functionality and style.

The lining is made from 100% recycled nylon, using a 40-denier taffeta fabric. The same lining as the brand’s classic 65/35 Mountain Parka is used, offering a smooth feel when slipping on the sleeves. Inside, there are four inner pockets, with the upper pockets being designed at an angle for easy access to small items, a detail that reflects careful attention to functionality.

The large utility pockets designed at the waist provide ample storage, with a mobile pocket designed on the right side. While retaining classic design elements, the details are mixed to fit urban living needs.

The colors include a natural light beige and a modern black lineup. The back vent design has been omitted, and the relaxed silhouette with added width reflects the current style mood, resulting in a stylish piece.

This new tailored jacket, designed to create a sophisticated outdoor style, is now being released. Paired with wide pants made of the same material, you can wear it over a tucked-in shirt or T-shirt, offering a relaxed "The Mountain Ivy" look.
