The biggest highlight this season is the much-awaited introduction of a GORE-TEX product featuring 2-layer nylon fabric. We’re putting the spotlight on our field jacket.
As a new signature piece for the brand, we’ve created an item featuring waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX Fabrics. The 2-layer ePE GORE-TEX Fabrics uses a non-fluorinated waterproof breathable membrane with a water-repellent finish, while the outer shell is made from 70D recycled nylon poplin. Combining high waterproof breathability with an urban vibe, this item comes in two colors: sage green—evoking a military feel yet fitting for the season—and the brand’s signature asphalt gray.
We set out to create a core item for our brand by leveraging the trusted waterproof and breathable performance of GORE-TEX Fabrics—well-proven in outdoor fields—and by updating it into a more eco-friendly functional material.
Starting this season, we’re introducing an ePE (expanded polyethylene) membrane that excludes PFAS (perfluoroalkyl substances and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which have been linked to potential adverse effects on both the environment and human health.
For the outer fabric, we chose a lightweight nylon poplin that’s versatile and has a subdued sheen. On the back yoke, we added a panel in the brand’s signature purple, with both the brand name and the GORE-TEX product label placed above it.
We used a 20D recycled nylon ripstop for the lining, ensuring that the sleeves slide on smoothly. As a key piece in our “outdoor wear that works in urban life,” we’ve not only updated the look and functionality but also focused on creating a light, comfortable feel for everyday wear.
The design takes its cue from a military-inspired piece, blended with details from THE NORTH FACE’s iconic Mountain Jacket. Notable features include the shoulder yoke seam and the split construction along the center back. While the original archival model featured shoulder epaulettes, we omitted them for a cleaner, more streamlined appearance.
Normally worn as a stand collar, the jacket features a built-in hood discreetly stored in the neckline. The hood’s design is inspired by THE NORTH FACE’s Wind Jammer Jacket, offering a three-dimensional shape that fully covers the head to keep rain out.
While the original military archive piece had narrower shoulders, we reimagined it with a drop-shoulder construction with a gently rounded silhouette around the shoulders.
The sleeve pattern is designed to avoid restricting arm movement. By adding darts to the sleeves—reminiscent of military wear—they move smoothly whether you’re raising or bending your arms.
Additionally, there is a flap stored inside by default that can be deployed to cover the back of the hand, keeping it dry in rainy conditions. On the right cuff, the GORE-TEX Fabrics logo is embroidered in a matching tone.
We used an envelope-style design for the chest pockets, where the pocket body and flap are sewn together, creating ample storage capacity—one of this jacket’s standout features. Inside, as on a Mountain Parka, there’s also a zippered pocket.
The waist cord can be adjusted from inside the hip flap pockets. Pulling it tight changes the silhouette and brings more definition to your outfit.
The Field Jacket—featuring distinctive front-pocket details and a softly rounded shoulder line—has been carefully refined for the modern era, with the goal of becoming a new staple that represents the essence of the brand. Combining high functionality with a contemporary urban feel, it is poised to become an iconic piece from THE NORTH FACE Purple Label.
