FFFES (For, Feel, Find, Endangered Species) / No.004
【ニホンノ絶滅危惧種】
Endangered Species in Japan / No.004

We hope to inspire even a small interest in the Earth’s natural environment.
At the heart of THE NORTH FACE Purple Label’s craftsmanship is
always this sentiment.
The FFFES project, which started in 2023, is part of this effort.
Named after the initials of "For, Feel, Find, Endangered Species,"
FFFES is an initiative to learn about endangered species,
reflect on the natural environment, and evoke a response.
This season features
the Japanese Golden Eagle.
Known as the strongest predator
of the mountains,
it faces extinction due to changes
in its habitat.
Inspired by this forest king,
we created T-shirts,
tote bags, and bandanas.
The pop-style artwork has been crafted by graphic artist “m2n”.
A portion of the proceeds
will be donated to
the Nature Conservation Society of Japan,
a public interest incorporated
foundation dedicated to the conservation
of Japan’s endangered species.
ニホンイヌワシ
Japanese Golden Eagle
分類:タカ目タカ科
学名:Aquila chrysaetos japonica
レッドリストカテゴリー:絶滅危惧IB類(EN)
Measuring 81–89 cm in length with a wingspan exceeding 2 meters, this large raptor primarily inhabits mountainous
regions and open grasslands, focusing on areas like Hokkaido,
Tohoku, Chubu, and the Japan Sea side of the Chugoku region. Known for its sharp eyes and beak, its body is covered in
dark brown feathers, but true to its English name, "Japanese Golden Eagle," it features golden feathers on the back of its head, creating a striking accent. Its diet mainly consists of hares, pheasants, and snakes, but it also preys on mammals like young serows and deer.
It is said that once it pairs with a mate the couple remains together for life, and who together establishes a territory in the mountains and lives in the same location year-round. Its range is expansive, with an average territory size of 20–60 square kilometers.

Artwork incorporating a graphic style,
featuring its powerful legs that grab hold of anything with ease.

The green-colored FFFES,
composed of irregular shapes,
expresses a natural and organic texture.

In contrast to the pop-style character of the Japanese Golden Eagle,
its strong, imposing legs command attention.

Comment from Artist
“Humans have gained a richer lifestyle through deforestation and urban development,
but at the same time, many creatures,
including the Japanese Golden Eagle, have been driven to
the brink of extinction.
We may not often have opportunities to think about such issues,
but it’s important to become aware,
even a little,
of coexistence with these creatures.
The thoughts and actions of each individual can create a positive cycle
for the planet as a whole, enriching our lives in the process. ”
When thinking of what the relationship is between people and nature,
there is something that comes to mind.
When I’m in the train in the morning heading to the office,
or when I’m walking in the crowded city, it just comes to mind.
It is that time passes equally for all beings, and at this very moment
not only people but animals and plants too are striving to live on this planet.
For, Feel, Find, Endangered Species
With the effects of global warming,
there are many species on the verge of extinction at this very moment.
This project may be a small step,
but it is a project that will make each of us think about the future.
