From THE NORTH FACE Purple Label, we introduce an item from the newly released PLAS series for this fall. We have picked up the stand-collar field jacket for a special feature.
*PLAS : abbreviation for Purple Layer Access System, which allows outerwear and innerwear to be connected via a zipper.
First, let’s focus on the materials, specifications, and design of the field jacket.
The jacket is made from recycled polyester poplin, known for its soft texture, and the outer fabric is treated with a PFC-free water-repellent finish that is environmentally friendly, as it does not use fluorine compounds. The lining is made from 40-denier recycled nylon taffeta, which allows for smooth sleeve movement.
The design combines THE NORTH FACE’s iconic Mountain Jacket with the style of a military field parka.
The stand collar is the default, but it is equipped with a stowable hood that can handle sudden rain. The length when worn is mid-length, and it is finished with an oversized silhouette that allows for a relaxed fit.
The inside of the front waist pockets and the hem are equipped with cord stoppers that can be adjusted with one hand, allowing you to tighten the cords to give the silhouette a rounded shape when worn.
There is a zipper pocket on the inside of the front placket, which is convenient for storing small items such as keys and smartphones.
The sleeves feature darts, creating a three-dimensional design that follows the natural movement of the arms, making it a practical piece of outerwear suited for urban life. The 42mm embroidered logo of THE NORTH FACE is subtly placed in the same color at the back right hem, with a discreet logo placement that is a signature brand detail.
Now, let’s focus on the key layering specifications.
Branded as PLAS (Purple Layer Access System), this system allows outerwear and innerwear to dock together, providing not only warmth and versatility but also enabling free enjoyment of different combinations of materials and colors.
The functional layering system perfect for urban living is completed by combining the field jacket, a down cardigan featuring diamond quilting inspired by classic outdoor styles, and a vest or cardigan made from the familiar wool fleece of THE NORTH FACE Purple Label.
THE NORTH FACE has incorporated its unique ideas into the zip-fastener-based layering system, which was developed to function in outdoor scene.
While the layering mechanism using zippers is the same, the highlight is the ability to reverse the innerwear (such as the down cardigan or fleece) and then connect it.
This allows the waist pockets of the down cardigan and fleece to be used as inner pockets when connected.
Additionally, the design ensures that when the jacket is removed, the embroidered logo and brand name on the neck of the innerwear are clearly visible.
PLAS Field Jacket has small buckles attached to the neckline and cuffs.
The down cardigan and fleece have loops for attaching the buckles, and when connected, the fit improves, enhancing the overall wearability.
Furthermore, the buckles on the jacket can be concealed, allowing them to be stored out of sight when the jacket is worn on its own.
The field jacket lineup includes the brand’s signature Asphalt Gray, as well as Olive Drab and Black. You can enjoy various color combinations, such as pairing the innerwear with matching solid patterns or contrasting colors, offering the freedom to experiment with different colorings.
This is nothing complicated, just simply connecting the outer and mid-layer via a zipper to enhance warmth and add color combinations. It is a thoughtfully crafted collection with this objective.
